Merritt T. Carey, Founder & Strategist
Merritt founded GraffamSolutions initially as a human resource and employment law consulting business in 2003. Through her work, she developed a passion for helping her clients develop socially responsible workplace policies such as diversity initiatives, flex-time policies, and fair wages. Expanding on this work, Merritt reinvented GraffamSolutions to help clients find socially responsible initiatives that fit their businesses and develop cause related marketing strategies to engage their consumers.

After completing her undergraduate work at Brown University, Merritt sailed around the world as a crew member on the second all female team to complete the Whitbread-Around-the-World Race. She then sailed on the first all-female America’s Cup team before entering law school in Auckland, New Zealand. Returning home to her native Maine in 1996, Merritt completed her law degree from the University of Maine School of Law, graduating magna cum laude. After several years in a big law firm in Portland, Merritt went out on her own, helping clients improve workplace culture through best practices. Today Merritt’s focus is on strategic planning and innovative initiatives.

Merritt’s social involvement began in 1987 when she was awarded the environmental award in high school for developing a model for a wind-powered farm. Since then Merritt has pursued a host of socially responsible causes including being a board member of Friends of Casco Bay and Maine Island Trail Association and promoting socially responsible work place policies.
